Railways staff observes token strike over alleged scuffle with GRP cops | | | Early Time Report
Jammu, Jan 2 : Railway staff went on strike for hours together after alleged scuffle between Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel and railway employees which took place over the issue of shifting of an unidentified body found from one of the compartment of DMU here in Katra today. Meanwhile one GRP cop was placed under suspension for his alleged rowdiness. As per police reports, the railway staff at Katra and Jammu Railway Station as well went on token strike which remained effective for some hours till senior officers of the police intervened and suspended the GRP Cop involved in manhandling. "The incident took place at Katra Railway Station when an unidentified female body was found in the compartment of the DMU train, police sources said, adding, "accordingly a police team of GRP ,led by Sub Inspector Om Dutt reached on the spot." Sources said, "The police reportedly sought help from the railway cleaner to shift body who reportedly rejected the offer by later forcing the men in khakhi to engage in verbal dual with him and thing took ugly turn and ended into a scuffle between the two sides." The Railway cleaner immediately reported the matter to his seniors who took the matter to the GRP Police Station where things remained heated as earlier and both sides got engaged in blame games. Meantime, expressing their resentment over the issue, the railway staff Katra not only observes token strike but also communicated to their counterparts in Jammu and Udhampur as well where the Railways employees also observed strike to register their resentment over alleged behavior of GRP personnel. Later the matter was pacified after the intervention of the senior police officers and suspension of the Sub Inspector Om Dutt. |
