Bhat's meeting with Mufti: Separatists ultimately accept representative character of PDP | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 2: The much-publicised meeting of senior moderate separatist Prof Abdul Ghani Bhat with patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has authenticated that even separatists have realized that Mufti is the tallest political figure in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This meeting has also given impression that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has earned trust and credibility of the people of the State in general and Kashmir Valley in particular. The meeting has given credibility to the representative character of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his party PDP because separatists have ultimately realised that Mufti is the only leader of J&K who have representative character. It is not the question what transpired in the "high profile" meeting between a separatist leader and patron of main-stream PDP which has stirred up political storm in J&K but one thing is clear that separatist have accepted that people of Kashmir Valley have given a decisive mandate to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who has emerged as undisputed leader. It is also not the question whether PDP will form government with BJP or become part of the grand-alliance but this meeting has given a loud and clear message that separatists too have realized that recently held assembly elections was free and fair in which people have accepted Mufti Sayeed as their leader. Prof Bhat met Mohammad Mohammad Sayeed on Thursdayevening in Srinagar in what was termed by both sides as a courtesy visit. "If two friends meet, is it an issue? Mufti and me were class fellows since college days," Prof Bhat told the media in response to his meeting with Mufti. "Agendas cannot be discussed individually. If it was just a meeting it could have nothing beyond a meeting," said Prof Bhat. Prof Bhat's group Muslim Conference is a constituent of moderate Hurriyat led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. To avoid controversy, Bhat reiterated the Hurriyat stand on Kashmir. "Polls and formation of the new government can in no way affect the veracity of Kashmir issue," said Bhat. |
