Early Times Report

Rajouri, Jan 2: Science classes in Post Graduate College at Nowshera couldn't be introduced even after 5 years of its existence as the State Government has failed to provide college building to the students.
More shocking is that the college is being run in four rooms of a government middle school at Nowshera and the construction work of PG college building was started about 3 years ago and was to be handed over to the college authorities in 2014.
The building is still under construction and the principal of the college has asked the construction company to complete/hand over the building before March 31.
Sources said that the college was started in 2010 and the government had promised to provide building to this college within 2 years of its establishment.
Students alleged that it took 2 years to government to identify the land for college building in Darshan Nagar and three years ago the construction work was started by the J&K Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) but the work is going on at snail pace and building is still incomplete.
Sources said that the science classes couldn't be started because it needs laboratories and we have no space for that at present location in the middle school building.
The construction work of the building was started about 3 years ago with a cost of Rs 11.54 crores and the building is in finishing stage.
"We have spent about Rs 8 crores till date on this building and the work has been delayed due to non-availability of the remaining funds worth Rs3.54 croes.
Building is almost completed and it requires finishing including electric and water fittings, construction of approach road and compound wall" said Maqbool Hussain, XEN, JKPCC.
He added that the exact date for the completion/handing over of the building can't be predicted as it depends when the remaining funds are released.
" JKPCC will hand over the building to the college authorities within six months after the remaining funds were released' Said Maqbool Hussain.
He further said that the matter has been taken up several times with the higher authorities and we hope for their early response.
"Due to non-seriousness by the concerned officials the students of the area couldn't take admissions in Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Geography and other science subjects during current academic session" said an aggrieved student.
