Pak troops celebrate New Year with a difference | | | Pakistani troops celebrated the New Year's eve and the New year with a difference. While people all over the globe were engaged in making preparations for celebrating New Year's eve Pakistani troops celebrated the event by launching gun and mortar attacks on various BSF pickets on this side of the International Border (IB) In the Jammu sector. In fact the Pakistan troops had marked the advent of 2014 with minor ceasefire violations and ended the same year with major violation of ceasefire. On Thursday the Pak troops targeted 15 BSF posts. And the year that is over has witnessed the highest number of ceasefire violations in the last 11 years. During 2014 there were about 562 incidents of ceasefire violations on the LOC and on the IB in Jammu and Kashmir. The Pakistani troops concentrated on the 187-km long IB in Jammu sector as out of 562 ceasefire violations Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire agreement on 410 times on the IB and the remaining 152 incidents were witnessed on the LOC, especially between Poonch and Rajouri. The basic purpose behind these repeated ceasefire violations was to assist groups of militants in crossing into Jammu and Kashmir, especially in the Jammu sector. Knowing that comparatively the region of Jammu has remained peaceful than the Kashmir valley agencies across the border have plans of focusing their attention on the IB so that a bigger number of militants were able to sneak into the region for destabilizing peace. No doubt that a strong retaliation by the BSF forced the Pakistani Rangers to silence their guns they had lost five security personnel in the retaliatory fire against one BSF jawan who fell dead when hit by mortar shells.Even if the Ministry of Defence issued instructions to the Indian border guards to retaliate with force and fury one should not presume that the Pakistani guns have fallen silent after the Indian retaliatory fire. Since May last the Indian forces have retaliated with force and fury and during all these occasions the Pakistani guns did fall silent but for a brief period. This way if Pakistani guns have fallen silent across the Samba sector the Indian forces need to be ready for facing another ceasefire violation to be followed by more such violations. Since the Republic Day celebrations in India are around the corner and the American President, Barack Obama,is scheduled to be the chief guest at the function in New Delhi Pakistani troops and Rangers may target more Indian Army and BSF posts and pickets. Repeated ceasefire violations are being committed by the Pakistani troops not only for carving out a safe passage for militants but also to mount pressure on establishment in Washington and on the UNO so that they force India to reopen the channels of dialogue with Pakistan for resolving various bilateral issues, especially the Kashmir issue. Now that Obama is arriving in India the Indian troops have to get ready for meeting any eventuality being caused by ceasefire violations on the border by Pakistani troops and Rangers. Already during 2014, 19 people, including five security personnel, were killed and 150 injured in these ceasefire violations. In addition to this more than 5,000 families had to flee to safer places on this side of the IB. This way the troops and the BSF have to take in hand all possible steps for preventing Pakistani forces from assisting militants in crossing over to Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from building pressure on US and UN for mediating on Kashmir the Pakistani forces resort to ceasefire violations to force New Delhi to reopen the channels of dialogue with Islamabad. However, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has conveyed to Pakistan, in clear terms, that talks and terror can never coexist. |
