SRINAGAR, Jan 3: Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khanday who has assumed the significance of in-charge Chief Minister has begun to feel the heat since the people in power, from Chief Minister to the Ministers have abandoned the offices.
The Chief Secretary is finding it extremely very difficult to handle the situation that has arisen in wake of the stalemate over the government formation.
Sources said that officers of many departments who are posted in Srinagar have found this situation ideal to fly out of the valley and are enjoying themselves in the winter capital of the state. It has badly hampered the work of many departments much to the inconvenience of the commoners.
"As many as two dozen high profile officers who are posted in the valley are spending their time leisurely in the winter capital of the state. It has brought the activities of the different departments to a grinding halt," said sources.
The sources said that even Chief Engineer of Mechanical Engineering Department is out of valley that too during the winter. He is directly responsible for the ensuring the road connectivity in case of the snowfall which is any time possibility in the Kashmir valley given the winter season that is going on.
"Besides the chief Engineer of the Power Development Department for the Ladakh division is in Jammu when his services are much needed given the sensitivity of his posting that too in the winter. The absence of these officers from their duties has badly affected the work in the department," said sources.
As per the sources, the officers who are out of the station include the Director School Education, Director Horticulture, Director Floriculture and Director Sheep Husbandry.
Ashfaq Ahmad an employee of PDD said that in the winter season in Kashmir, the work of every department is essential in nature so that quick relief is provided to the people in case of the snowfalls. He said the absence of high profile officers from their duties can in no way be justified.
It has been learnt that Chief Secretary has taken a serious note of this issue and has entrusted the Divisional Commissioner of the valley, Rohit Kansal to seek clarification from the officers who are out of the station.
