JAMMU, Jan 3: The Jammu University authorities have adopted a unique way to address the complaints of harassment, even by the female faculty members and in a recent case, varsity has reportedly provided two Personnel Security Officers to the complainant, instead of registering FIR against a contractor, who is otherwise an outsider.
Sources informed Early Times that few days back, an assistant Professor of Department of Law had lodged a complaint with JU authorities against a contractor, who has allegedly been stalking her for the last many days.
"The accused contactor has been getting contacts for various works in varsity for the last many years. It was the same contactor against whom, student organization had lodged protest demonstration and had sought probe in the matter", sources said.
They further informed that though the contractor was an outsider but the political influence of contractor could be gauged from the fact that he managed to hush up the case and restricted the varsity authorities from registering First Information Report (FIR) against him.
"Aiming to hush up the case and save the contactor, the JU authorities, in a surprising manner, constituted a three or four members' committee comprising of faculty members of Law department, who are allegedly closed to contractor", sources said.
Sources further divulged that for the first time in the history of Jammu University that two Personal Security Officers (PSOs) have been given to the complainant.
According to statutes of Jammu University, the authority must had to file FIR against the contractor, but uniquely the committee of Law department was constituted, instead of the committee comprising of senior administrative functionaries.
"The JU authorities are leaving no stone unturned to hush up the case and on Friday the committee had held its first meeting", sources said, adding that the committee was merely for pacifying the anger and the committee would ultimately die a slow death.
