Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 7 : The journey on Jammu-Srinagar National highway will be a little expensive from September this year as toll tax would be charged from the vehicle operators after the completion of this NHIA prestigious project.
This project was started with an aim to ease traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway which is termed as the main cause of jams and accidents.
According to reports, the people of state, who were waiting anxiously for this ambitious project and hoped against its completion by its deadline in 2016, are now hopeful of its on time completion as the highway from Jammu to Udhampur is almost 90 pc complete. Sources believe that project is likely to get completed on time as AFCONS almost managed to complete the Jammu-Udhampur Widening Project on time as the Project Director (NHAI) R P Singh's telephonic conversation with 'Early times' claiming to open one tube tunnel in the starting January has proved true. "No doubt that the Jammu-Udhampur Road Widening process was likely to be completed in June 2014 and it missed the another deadline fixed by the authorities, the snarling of traffic is no more a problem owing to the down movement of the traffic via recently opened tunnel tubes", said the sources. Sources claimed that the authorities were likely to charge about Rs 130 one side as toll tax from private vehicles too as soon the project gets completed. Project Director (NHAI) when contacted said that the Jammu-Udhampur Road Widening is 90 % complete and is ready to be opened soon. He said that delay was of tunnel tubes only, one tube of which was also thrown open from last week. He assured that the other tunnel tube will be opened shortly within next week for the vehicular movement while the remaining project was delayed due to Land Accuisition problems at various sites. He added that the entire project between Jammu and Udhampur will be hopefully opened from September onwards this year.
"The authoroities will charge toll tax only after the completion of the whole project and it will take some time still and the charges are not decided yet", he added.
