Avinash Azad Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 7: Carrying forward his practice of reversing the decisions taken by the former Vice-Chancellor and university council, the acting VC of University of Jammu, on Tuesday held a meeting to allegedly accommodate his favorite professor, who was removed from the post of Directorate of Distance Education following molestation charges in 2009. Sources told Early Times the senior faculty members who attended the meeting opposed the acting VC's move to give plum posting to the "tainted professor." The acting VC Prof RD Sharma had called a meeting to review case of Prof Sushil Sharma, presently posted at publication wing of University of Jammu. "The acting VC, Dr RD Sharma held meeting with Director College Development Council Prof Desh Bandu, Controller Examination Prof Keshav Sharma, Registrar Univeristy of Jammu Prof Manoj Dhar, Director Distance Education Prof V D Singh, Prof Naresh Padha, Post Graduate Department of Physics & Electronics Prof Satnam Kaur head of department English, Deputy Registrar Vivek Salathia and OSD to Vice Chancellor Jai Pal Sharma", sources said, adding that meeting was called to pave way for Prof Sushil in DDE. "But, due to opposition by some professors, instead of reviewing the decision, VC sought case report", they added. "In 2009, the then Vice-Chancellor, Prof Varun Sahini suspended, Prof Sushil Sharma of Punjabi department, DDE, following protest against Prof Sharma who allegedly molested a girl student", sources said, adding that later on the Professor was reinstated and posted in Publication wing of the University. "Outgoing Vice Chancellor, Pof MPS Ishar had conducted a judicial probe against the allegations leveled against Prof Sushil Sharma. Later the enquiry report was placed before University Council," sources said. "After going through the report presented by one member committee, the Governor J&K, who is also Chancellor of the University reinstated the Professor." |
