PDP not interested in going with Cong, NC | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report KISHTWAR, Jan 7: People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which emerged as the single largest party by bagging 28 seats in the recent assembly elections, is least interested in joining hands with Congress or the National Conference, which secured 12 and 15 seats respectively in the polls, to form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir . Sources told Early Times that PDP leaders have not forgotten the role played by senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad in 2009 to stop Congress from joining hands with PDP to form the government then. PDP insiders said that Azad after 2008 assembly polls played a vital role in ensuring that Omar Abdullah becomes the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir so that he could teach PDP a lesson for pulling out from his government in 2008 during the Amarnath land row. Sources said that as part of internal rift between the Ghulam Nabi Azad and Congress state President Prof Saifuddin Soz, Azad extended his full support to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to keep Soz away from power and stopped him (Soz) to become the Chief Minister as many Congress leaders raised their voice for change of guard in JK after Omar Abdullah completed his first three years in office. Sources said that PDP at initial stage had given a thought to join hands with Congress if both Azad and Soz were kept out, but PDP later realized that entering into any alliance with Congress or NC would only help the party to regain power in the state, but at the same time party felt that the government would remain as a statutory body and won't get much help from the Centre for carrying out developmental works. |
