After Article 370, NHPC Power Projects hamper PDP-BJP alliance | | | Javaid Naikoo
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 7: Returning Projects under NHPC to the state is another hurdle in PDP-BJP alliance. Credible sources informed early times that besides others in the party PDP Patron, Mufti Muhammad Syed himself is adamant that power Projects under National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) should be returned to Jammu and Kashmir so that state's economy in general can improve and promises made with people over the years in the name of development can be fulfilled if they formed the government. As PDP-BJP alliance is on cards and the fact remains that talks with BJP have not made much headway because PDP has listed some demands that only central government can address and despite the fact that article 370 is a major hurdle in signing the pact of alliance with BJP, yet PDP is insistent on the demands discussed with top brass leadership of BJP in Delhi which include strengthening article 370, revocation of AFSPA, release of package for the flood victims and return of power projects from the NHPC to the state. Sources said that PDP patron believes that power Projects under NHPC were gifted to NHPC for some petty gains by previous governments and believes that if PDP rules state this time then state must be compensated for the losses suffered by it because of many issues like disputed Indus Water Treaty and arbitrary exploitation of its water resources by NHPC. As Power Projects under NHPC remained a hot discussion for political parties inside and outside the state assembly during last six years of NC-Congress coalition government and Omar Abdullah himself inside the Assembly during summer session of Jammu last year admitted that his government failed to bring back Power Projects to the state, sources said that as a mark of upper hand over the other political parties of the state in terms of bringing back lost power Projects to state, PDP leadership is committed to bring back power projects to the state on whatever cost it may take to them this time. Pertinently after Omar Abdullah was criticized in length and breadth of the state for not bringing power projects to the state under his reign he later in a recorded statement in Kashmir said that his Government has decided not to hand over any new power project to NHPC until and unless it returned three power projects Dul Hasti, Salal and Uri to Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile according to sources PDP and BJP leadership is busily engaged in building consensus on issues which have become hurdle for the parties to accept and reject and form a stable government instead of going for Governor's rule for next six months in Jammu and Kashmir. |
