SRINAGAR, Jan 7: Throwing all moral values to wind, doctors at the Khyber Hospital 'forcibly' discharged an aged patient form the hospital without providing him the necessary treatment. Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh aged 75 years resident of Kani Divar Hawal, who had to undergo a major surgery at Khyber Hospital, was thrashed out of the operation theater by doctors and also beaten up his attendants without any reason. Sheikh according to his family had serious back injuries and was recommended by the doctors at Bone and Joint Hospital to undergo an immediate surgery, which could be done at SMHS Hospital only. "My father is an old aged person who had a slip in the lawn after he went to bathroom for ablution; he was unconscious and we immediately took him to Bone and Joint Hospital where doctors advised us to refer him to SMHS hospital for immediate surgery. At SMHS one Dr Irshad met us who asked us to pay rupees one lakh at Khyber hospital for quality treatment," Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, the patient's son told Early Times. He said that the doctors at Khyber hospital asked us to pay rupees one lakh for surgery however they were crestfallen the moment they refused to perform the surgery. "We paid Rs. 50,000 primarily but the doctors for the reasons better known to them asked to bring our aged father after 15 days surgery. We expressed our resentment for this extremely irresponsible behavior of doctors at Khyber Hospital, but our pleas fallen flat to deaf ears after police baton charged us and warned us of dire consequences if we won't leave the hospital," said Ghulam Nabi. He said that the doctors thrashed their ill father from the operation theatre which provoked them to protest against the inhumanly behavior of hospital administration. "After conducting necessary tests we came to know that the patient has heart ailment, his surgery was only possible after underwent a heart surgery but they resorted to hooliganism that forced the administration to call police," a senior medico at Khyber Hospital toldEarly Times. However the family members of Sheikh while refuting the claims accused the hospital administration of behaving like goons, saying "why did not they informed us initially about the issue why they asked us to pay hefty sum for surgery, either the doctors there are incompetent enough or they wanted us to pay more money," said Ghulam Nabi. He said that they will leave no stone unturned to reveal the facts and also lodge an FIR against Khyber administration for this shameful act. "We cannot remain silent as they wasted much of our time and money until our father is not operated upon. We will lodge an FIR against the doctors who ditched us at the last moment and left our father to die," he threatened.
