Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 7: The possibility of the BJP-PDP or PDP-BJP coalition government in the state has rattled both the caretaker Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and radical Islamist and Pakistani agent Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Both have launched a campaign which is aimed at convincing the PDP of the need to hold itself aloof from the "communal" BJP. Geelani has, in addition, also accused both the PDP and the NC of playing anti-Kashmir games to enjoy political power and has warned the Kashmiri Muslims that a truck between the BJP and the Kashmiri parties would not only harm the ongoing separatist movement in the Valley, but would result in the destruction of Kashmir, Kashmiri culture and Kashmiri society. "Keep a close watch on the situation as our everything - our life, our property, our faith and our culture - will be in danger," he asked the Kashmiri Muslims on Tuesday while denouncing the efforts of the PDP and the BJP towards formation of government in the state.
Omar Abdullah, who actually wants to do business with the BJP and keep the PDP out of the government, has been accusing the PDP leadership of hobnobbing with the BJP whose stand on Article 370, AFSPA, India-Pakistan dialogue and dialogue with the Kashmiri separatists is not consistent with the PDP. He and his colleagues like Ali Mohammad Sagar are asking the Muftis of the PDP to make public the contours of their discussions with the BJP over government formation. Omar Abdullah has even gone to the extent of reminding the PDP leadership of what they said against the BJP during the election campaign.
The fact of the matter is that while Geelani and his ilk are charging both the PDP and the NC with bartering Kashmiri interests for the sake of power and asking Kashmiri Muslims to teach them a lesson, Omar Abdullah and others in the NC in Kashmir are telling the Kashmiri Muslims that the Muftis are playing foul with the mandate that it got and that they are compromising their stand on Article 370, AFSPA and India-Pakistan dialogue. Omar Abdullah is using the social media to the hilt to tarnish the image of the Muftis and his whole game plan is creating in the Valley a situation that forces the PDP to rethink or review its stand on government formation with the BJP or becoming part of the BJP-led government in the state.
It is important to note that the PDP leadership is not attaching any importance to what the likes of Sayed and Abdullah are saying against it and is trying its best to stitch an alliance with the BJP. Both the PDP and the BJP on Tuesday gave enough of hints that they are in touch with each other and that structured talks between the two would start soon to clinch the whole issue and form the next government in the state. In fact, there are reports that both the PDP and the BJP have covered much distance and that they could form government anytime after January 12. The nature of the mandate is such that these two parties have to play a crucial role in the government formation. The NC would come into picture only if the talks between the PDP and the BJP fail - something Omar Abdullah likes very much.
