Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 7: Vested interests in Kashmir have unleashed a no-holds-barred campaign against the Dogras of Jammu, the Dogra rule and the Jammu electorate and instigating the people of Kashmir. Their whole objective is to defeat the demand in Jammu for the office of Chief Minister. They are saying that "under normal circumstances Chief Minister's berth should be an entitlement of any of the three regions" and that "it should not be baptized", but, at the same time, they are claiming that "Jammu and Kashmir has a history", that "the Muslims of the State are not out of the woods so far" and that it is they who deserve the post of Chief Minister, as they consider the Dogras of Jammu aliens, aggressors and oppressors.
"The Valley Muslim has a historical grievance against Dogra ruler for his rule. Jammu on its part has not conducted itself in pre 1947 and during 1947 history in the manner in which the Valley Muslim has refused to contaminate his views about Jammu and Ladakh. Today we find a blame being laid at the door of Valley Muslim for his unwillingness to accept the overbearing influence of BJP in Jammu… BJP has been put in the seat in Jammu by its communal appeal and by forces working in Delhi to keep Jammu and Kashmir in turmoil. There is a risk that after consolidating the Jammu votes on a communal basis, these forces would continue to fragment the Valley Muslim vote in the next elections (if issues remains unresolved) into various sects. There are people working in the Valley, in Delhi and outside Kashmir who have started defining Muslims as Gujjars, Bakarwals, Paharis, Shias, Barelvi, Deobandis, etc. These forces are being funded by Delhi to fragment and reduce the dignity of vote in Jammu and Kashmir. Every citizen of the State, in particular, Hurriyat, civil society, NGOs and well-meaning people should occupy themselves with this challenge and defeat the forces let out to destroy Kashmiriat preserved by all in particular by the Kashmiri Muslim at the cost of his own continued loss throughout history…Jammu should not allow BJP to overdo itself on its Jammu mandate. Kashmiri Muslim has all along carried the grievance against Dogra ruler from Jammu," these vested interests and anti-Jammu forces in the Valley are shamelessly saying.
These communal forces in Kashmir are only further alienating the already rather alienated people of Jammu and Ladakh from Kashmir by denouncing the Dogras, the Dogra rule and by dismissing the Jammu electorate as communal. The people of Jammu province are known for their liberal values and all-inclusive approach. They have all along accommodated the victims of communalism and terrorism to the extent that Jammu is being termed as a land of refugees. Besides, the Dogra rule was known for its liberal attitude towards Kashmir. There is hardly any evidence to suggest that the Dogra rule ever treated the people of Kashmir shabbily. On the contrary, there are instances and instances which show that the Kashmir and Kashmiri people were highly respected during the Dogra rule. Leave aside the elements like Sheikh Abdullah who and others of his ilk created mistrust between the Dogras and Kashmiri Muslims for the sake of personal power and profit.
These vested interests in Kashmir are dubbing the Jammu electorate as communal. It is an affront to the self-respect of the Dogras, Hindus and Muslims included. The Jammu electorate has voted for development, peace, prosperity, national unity and its empowerment. It could not be termed as a communal vote. They should remember that their tirade against Jammu, Jammu Dogras, Dogra rule and the Jammu's electorate would only lead to the state's division. They must stop their vicious campaign in the larger interest of the state.
