Massive attack on forces in Kashmir, army of stone pelters strikes in Kangan | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 3: In the wake of the killing of a youth during clashes between protesters and security forces in Kangan area of Ganderbal district on Monday, an army of stone pelters on Tuesday attacked the security forces. Twenty policemen, including an Additional Superintendent of Police, and 40 protesters were injured in the clashes. A national news channel has accessed exclusive footage of the massive attack on the forces. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) reinforcements have been called in to calm the situation. Notably, the Jammu and Kashmir government had earlier ordered the withdrawal of cases against those who stoned security forces for the first time. Unless the cases are withdrawn, the persons can't get government jobs. However, the recent incident shows how stone pelters reciprocate the government's gesture. It further raises the question that should BJP-PDP government shake off the pressure from peaceniks and withdraw the amnesty to pelters? Gowhar Ahmad Rather, a resident of Kangan in Ganderbal, had been admitted to SKIMS hospital with a critical head injury yesterday and died this afternoon. The deceased was injured during clashes between protestors and security forces in Kangan area last evening. While the locals alleged that he had sustained pellet injuries after being shot at by security forces, a police spokesman said Rather suffered critical injuries after he fell into a drain. "A group of miscreants had gathered in Kangan market to pelt stones and disturb law-and-order in the area. A police party reached the spot, on seeing which, the miscreants started running, during which the boy fell down and injured his head on the edge of the drain," a police spokesman said. "Reports regarding bullet injury are completely false since no bullet was fired on the spot," he said. |
