DHSJ turns nelson’s eye to Kathua district hospital | Eye specialist transferred, no replacement yet | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 3: The Directorate of Health Service Jammu (DHSJ) has forgotten to fill vacant post of eye specialist in District Hospital (DH) Kathua. On March 9, the DHSJ transferred 24 doctors including 10 Medical Officers and seven dental surgeons from different district hospitals. The long Consultant Ophthalmology, Dr. Shekhar Sharma who was deputed in DH Kathua was transferred and posted at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. But Dr Sharma's replacement is yet to come even after three weeks of his transfer. Hence the patients with eye ailments are facing inconvenience. Sources said that hundreds of patients visit the DH everyday, but due to non-availability of a specialist doctor, they are compelled either to go to private clinic or to move to Government Medical College Jammu for treatment. Surinder Sharma, a resident of village Jaglote said that one month ago, he visited the hospital for his mother's eye treatment. The doctor suggested a surgery, but now he along with his mother frequently visit the hospital where a doctor is not available. "The staff deputed there told us to visit Government Medical College Jammu for the surgery. It is not an easy task for us to go to Jammu," Surinder said. Castigating the government, he said that the two cabinet ministers from district Kathua have failed to engage specialist doctors in DH, Kathua which shows indifferent attitude towards the district. When contacted, Chief Medical Officer Kathua, Dr Ashok Choudhary said that after the transfer of the lone eye consultant, he informed the higher ups for filling up the vacancy. "Hopefully in coming days the vacancy would be filled up", he said. |
