Morning diet stopped in GMC, associated hospitals | Supplier's liabilities reach Rs 1 cr | | Nitesh Sangral
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 3: More than 1100 patients admitted at Government Medical College and its associated hospitals aren't getting their morning diet for last three days. Reason: the authorities have failed to clear pending liabilities of more than Rs 1 crore of the supplier. Moreover, the government has released 20 percent funds of projection for the year 2017-18. Official sources told Early Times that the supply of morning diet was stopped to patients of the GMC&H and its associated hospital including SMGS Hospital, Super Speciality Hospital (SSH), CD Hospital (CDH), Psychiatry Disease Hospital, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar and Sarwal from April 1. The supplier firm had sent reminders to GMC Jammu and its associated hospital to clear the outstanding amount so that the diet is supplied without any interruption. "The supplier has stopped supply of breakfast to the patients after the concerned authorities failed to clear his pending bills of about Rs 1 crore," the sources said. They said the other suppliers have also warned that if their pending amount is not released, the supply of afternoon and night meal will be stopped as well. Official sources said that in past the funds were released under plan budget and such problem did not take place. But now the funds are released under non-plan budget, and that too very little. So the hospitals' authorities are unable to clear all dues of diet suppliers. When contacted, Medical Superintendent, GMC&H Jammu Dr. Dara Singh said the issue was taken up with Minister for Health through Principal of GMC Jammu. He hoped the issue will be solved soon and diet will resume from Wednesday. Pertinently, in 2015 the diet of the above said hospitals was stopped by the suppliers for the same reasons. |
