Srinagar, Jan 23: Three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces on Wednesday in Binner area of Baramulla District in Jammu and Kashmir, police said. According to reports, arms and ammunition along with incriminating material were recovered from the spot. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation in the matter. Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said the militants slain in a gunfight with the forces in north Kashmir's Baramulla district were affiliated with Lashkar-eToiba. A spokesman identified the slain as Suhaib Farooq Akhoon S/O Farooq Ahmad Akhoon R/O Khanpora Baramulla, Mohsin Mushtaq Bhat S/O Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat R/O Qazi Hamam Baramulla and Nasir Ahmad Darzi S/O Mohd Amin Darzi R/O Sangrampora Batpora Sopore, presently Jamia Qadeem Baramulla.
"As per the police records all the three slain militants were affiliated with proscribed outfit LeT and were wanted by the law for their complicity in a series of crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities," he said.
The slain, he said, were active in Baramulla and Sopore areas. "They were involved in a gruesome killing of three young boys in Baramulla in April 2018 namely Haseeb Nabi Khan S/O Gh. Nabi Khan R/O Kakarhamam, Irfan Ahmad Sheikh S/O Ali Mohd Sheikh R/O Syed Karim, Mohd Asgar Sheikh S/O Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh R/O Kakarhamam Baramulla for which case FIR No: 74 of 2018 under section 302 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act is under investigation at Police Station Baramulla," said the spokesman. "In the aforementioned case, one militant Ajaz Ahmad Gojri S/O Ab. Rehman Gojri R/O Jamia Mohalla Baramulla who was part of the group involved in the killing of above mentioned three youths has been arrested earlier." The spokesman said that the trio was provided with ample opportunity to surrender. However, they fired on the security forces from their hideout. "Arms & ammunition including 3 AK 47 rifles were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken in case records for further investigation," he said.
