PHE babus hire domestic vehicles in violation of norms
1/23/2019 11:27:21 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 23: The Public Health Engineering Department are leaving no stone unturned to fleece pubic exchequer as most of the officials at Executive Engineer level have hired domestic vehicles to run the day to day business.
As per reliable sources informed Early Times that the PHE Jammu division has sufficient vehicles to run the business but the official posted at district level prefers Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) in violation of norms.
"As per the set guidelines, if any department needs more vehicles they have to put forward their demand to the State Motor Garages Department for approval but the officials of the PHE department never get approval from the department concerned and have hired more than two dozen domestic luxurious vehicles", said sources.
Sources further said that however, the department could hire only commercial vehicles by floating tender codal formalities, that too on the recommendation of State Motor Garages Department but ironically the departmental babus have never hired commercial vehicle and always prefer domestic vehicles that too of close relatives of the babus.
"In Jammu division PHE department has nine Superintendent Engineers (SEs) and 23 Executive Engineers (Xen) wherein more than 70 percent officials have hired domestic vehicles and every month Rs 35,000 to 40,000 per vehicle is being paid to private players which makes approximately Rs Five lac per year/ per vehicle", said another sources.
The callousness on part of department can be gauged from this fact that in Jammu district four Executive Engineer (EEs) including Ground Water, Procurement, Rural Civil and South are using luxurious SUV like Toyota Innova, Scorpio and Bolore while Executive Engineers of Akhnoor, Poonch, Reasi, Udhampur, Udhampur, Ramban, Kathua, and Samba are also used domestic vehicles since long time that too at exorbitant rates.
"However, three officials in Chief Engineer Office Jammu have not entitled to avail official vehicles are also enjoy SUVs under the nose of Chief Engineer Jammu", said sources.
