NC leaders give ultimatum to Abdullahs on 'new invitation'
1/23/2019 11:26:15 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Jan 23: A group of senior leaders of National Conference have allegedly given an "ultimatum" to the Abdullah family that if a leader who was recently ousted from Peoples Democratic Party was given entry into NC they would leave the party.
Sources said a group of senior NC leaders held a meeting with Omar Abdullah that if the said leader who was recently expelled from PDP is given any space in the party, they would resign in protest.
Source said the leaders told this to Omar after they got inputs that the Abdullahs were looking at the said leader as the "best bet" from Amira Kadal constituency for the Assembly elections in the coming months.
Sources said the growing proximity between Omar and the said leader through a group of Kashmiri businessmen had become a point of concern for the said group of leaders.
Sources said the Abdullahs were told that by welcoming him in the party, they would get regular "financial support to run the party."
Sources said one of the leaders had told his colleagues that if former PDP leader was welcome from Amira Kadal, the NC man from the area would become irrelevant.
Sources said the Abdullahs were making up their mind to accept the ousted PDP leader in NC for political gains but that the open rebellion by some senior leaders has killed such hopes.
"The clear-cut rebellion within the party has killed any such prospects," said a senior leader on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said a senior leader of NC from Budgam area and his counterpart from Srinagar had talked about the issue with their colleague from Jammu and had build up a strong case to oppose the entry of the said politician.
Sources said the Abdullahs have told the group of these leaders that no decision would be taken against interests.
"His story of entry into our party (NC) is over. Our party doesn't want to offend old leaders who have already stood for this party," said a senior NC leader.
Despite repeated attempts the Abdullahs or the former PDP leader were not available for comments.
