DC calls for bringing attitudinal change towards girl child

JAMMU, Jan. 23: District Development Commissioner Ramesh Kumar today organized awareness cum interaction programme here to mark celebration of Beti Bachao Beti Padao week on the theme "Beti Beta Ek Samaan". The programme was organized for legal/ civil literacy regarding rights and provisions for girls and women.
The workshop was attended by Chief Medical Officer Jammu, Dr Danish Ayoub Khan, Legal Officer ICDS, and Child Development Project Officers of Jammu District, senior functionaries of Social Welfare Department, Education Department, besides students of various schools participated in workshop.
At the outset, the CMO Jammu in his welcome address apprised the participants about the calendar of activities during celebration of BBBP week. It was informed that various awareness camps including debate, painting competitions and street plays will be organized at Panchayat/ Block level to aware the people about the importance of girl child, while door to door campaigns would be conducted by AWWs and Asha workers.
Meanwhile, during the programme the participants took a pledge to support and promote Beti Bacho Beti Padao.
Legal Officer ICPS and CMO Jammu gave a power point presentation on PC & PNDT Act, POSCO Act, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and others. It was informed that the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 has been enacted to provide a robust legal framework for the protection of children from offences of sexual assault, sexual harassment while safeguarding their interest at every stage of the judicial process.
PO ICDS informed about various women centric schemes being implemented by Social Welfare Department.
The DDC interacted with the participants and said the objective of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme is to make people aware about the importance of girl child in the society besides bringing about an attitudinal change among the people towards girl child.
He called for felicitating local women who have excelled in different fields and make them a part of awareness campaign. He also called for inter-departmental coordination to have maximum impact across the district.
