Chuni resents reservation benefits to Kashmiri migrants, depriving PoJK DPs

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 29: S. O. S. International - a prominent organization of Displaced Persons from PoJK, has strongly condemned Governor's Administration for issuing the controversial order allowing Kashmiri migrants reservation benefits under category of Backward area, Line of Control and International Border even if they are settled outside the State.
In a strong worded statement, the S. O. S. International Chairman, Rajiv Chuni termed this order as totally biased, discriminatory and devoid of logic, which deprives the wards of real stake holder, particularly the PoJK DPs, who were displaced from across the Line of Control. "We are neither against Kashmiri migrants or any other community but only demanding justice with the real stakeholders PoJK DPs, who were residing in most backward areas before their displacement and even now are settled along with LoC and IB border from Poonch to Kathua and facing the brunt of frequent firing from Pakistan resulting some time causalities and killing of their livestock," he said adding that they were not even able to undertake agriculture activities in their land thus causing economic losses every year.
However, on the other hand, Rajiv Chuni further said, the majority of Kashmiri migrants have come from cities and towns of the Valley and are now settled in Central areas of Jammu and other parts of India for the last around three decades without any link to the backward areas but extended the benefit of reservation on mere divisional migration. He alleged that Governor Satya Pal Mail was being misguided by a section of officers in his administration, which issued thiscontroversial order without ascertaining the real status of the class benefited under this order. "The Governor has not used same yardstick for PoJK DPs, who actually live in backward or on LoC or IB and have not been given similar benefits like Kashmiri migrants," he said and appealed the Government to reexamine the issue and extend the benefit to the deserving people actually residing within the backward areas, LoC and IB particularly.
