Illegal constructions in 'Red Zone' with admin support go unabated in Poonch
Some violators even got 'compensation, residential plot' after 2014 floods
5/30/2019 12:24:39 AM

Early Times Report
poonch, May 29: In brazen violation of norms, the district administration Poonch has ignored the safety of people by openly allowing 'illegal constructions close to Sher-e-Kashmir Bridge, on the Pulasttey river bed in Darya Colony of Poonch town.
What is more shocking is that the illegal constructions in the declared 'Red Zone' area are being raised by the people whose houses got damaged in 2014 devastating floods and they were allotted plots at safer place, besides financial aid for the loss they suffered.
The main culprits in the crime are the officials of Municipal Council Poonch and Irrigation and Flood Control Department as they have allowed construction of residential complexes in 'Red Zone' which was declared dangerous after 2014 floods.
"It is highly unfortunate that the district administration has not initiated any action against the violators who have been enjoying the patronage of political parties and babus. The irrigation and Flood Control Department and Municipal Council Poonch have overlooked the issue of safety of people which indicate that they are working in a league with violators," an official of Municipal Council said.
A local resident alleged, "The area has been declared as 'Red Area' where no residential or commercial construction can be allowed but violators, who had been paid compensation for their damaged houses in 2014, are constructing buildings without any fear because Irrigation Department, Municipal Council and district administration are having hand in glove with each other".
The furious resident said the Governor Satya Pal Malik should order a high-level inquiry to identify the officers who allowed these illegal constructions on river bed or close to the river despite knowing that these were being raised on 'Red Zone' area and break this nexus of corruption
