Differences surface in JRL over Geelani's recent stand | | |
Early Times Report srinagar, May 29: Differences have surfaced in the so called Joint Resistance Leadership after senior separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani chose to hold a different stand including his giving a call for the shutdown on the killing of militant commander Zakir Musa. It is pertinent to mention that Geelani who also heads the Hurriyat G was the only leader from among the separatists who gave a call for shutdown and paid tributes to the slain commander after his killing in Tral. It was for the first time in the recent past that Geelani whose Hurriyat G is a constituent of JRL chose to give a call for the shutdown individually and not in consultation with the JRL. Sources said the JRL was not willing to give a call for hartal on such killings and that Geelani may have taken the "decision individually for reasons better known to him." Zakir Musa had some years ago warned the separatist leaders not to call Kashmir a political issue or that he would kill them. While the separatist leaders were believed to be not holding any contact with the Kashmir Al Qaeda which Musa led but after his killing Geelani did call for hartal. Sources said in the recent days the various constituents of the JRL including the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and the Hurriyat M led by Mirwaiz are not on the same page on various issues. It is pertinent to mention that while JKLF Chief Yasin Malik has been jailed in Tihar, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who heads the Hurriyat M was recently summoned by the NIA in connection with the terror funding cases. Geelani's close relatives were also questioned by the NIA in connection with such cases. Sources said the NIA raids have left the separatists confused on how to tackle their stand political issues. |
