Unabated encroachment of migrant land continues
5/30/2019 12:23:03 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 29: Unabated encroachment of migrant land continues in Kashmir as the government watches helplessly.
According to sources, despite enforcement of Kashmiri Migrants Distress Sale Act, the unabated grabbing of exiled Pandits' land continues in Kashmir Valley.
Sources said the concerned district Development Commissioners who were made custodians of migrants immovable property under the Distress Sale Act passed by State Legislature in 1997 failed to enforce law in letter and spirit with the result the land mafia is enjoying a field day and they continue to grab the migrants land and other immovable property.
The major cause of concern is that even Government organisations did not hesitate in taking the displaced Pandits' land in its possession for public utility without informing the owners of the land or seeking their prior consent.
Sources said in different places of Valley, health centres, schools, roads, hospitals, pump stations have either been constructed on displaced Pandits' land or on the land of their religious places and shrines.
Sources said though migrants took up the issue with every quarter the Government failed to restore the property to its owners.
Reports said in village Hangalgund of Kokernag tehsil of Anantnag district the land mafia have let loose a reign of terror by forcibly occupying the left over migrant land to force the community to sell the same at throw away prices.
The issue has been brought in the notice of DC Anantnag as well as SHO Kokernag but till date no action has been taken against land mafia by the authorities.
In addition to it in Korigam village OF Qazigund in Kulgam district the temple land has been encroached by PDD by taking power supply to a residential house and installing electric poles in Temple premises and not through the lane.
The Pandits of the village though protested but nobody in administration paid heed to same.
In Chanam Rafiabad village of North Kashmir district of Baramulla the land OF cremation ground and Hindu shrines has been encroached for construction of road. The local Pandits have petitioned before the concerned officers but to no avail.
In addition to it hundreds of kanals of migrant land has been encroached in different parts of Valley like Vanpooh in Kulgam district, Sagam in Anantnag district, Sopore and Tikker in Baramulla and Kupwara district respectively.
