Mysterious personality that stormed the Nation
Jamwal Mahadeep Singh5/29/2019 11:38:44 PM
Every mystery of life has its origin in the heart. What we consider magic, may just be science that we don't understand. Magic, like technology, is a tool. We can well place these words with reference to 2019 election results that are not less than a magic but something more than magic, termed as a perfect chemistry of 'Modi-Shah duo'. Magic is in believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen. It may be a science that apolitical community cannot understand but it has proved that if perfectly propagated, one can shackle the visions of commonality and can create mesmerizing effects. A very relevant posting received on my WhatsApp group 'We for You' deserve mention and that goes as: 'As a student of Political Science, I have read that in Indian system of democracy, these are the elected MPs that elect 'PM' but in the just concluded elections, it is the PM, who is the real force behind election of the MPs'. Practically speaking the representative democracy of India has been transformed to 'Presidential form of Democracy' during the 2019 elections. We expect that new government under Modi as PM will, amend the Constitution to declare India also a 'Presidential form of democracy' (which he has monopolized in concluded elections) rather than keeping it a 'Representative form of democracy', the words just alluring in nature. Just nearing to the 2019 elections, all political parties, whether in power or out of power, doused the countrymen, with most lucrative promises. Here the words that hit their promises reminded me of the words of Criss Jami, an essayist, and existentialist philosopher, "Any halfway clever devil would decorate the highway to Hell as beautiful as possible." The election results of 17th Lok Sabha have given a reason to us that we must not allow the clock and the calendar to blind us to the belief that miracles do happen. A quarry has left us in dilemma that how mysterious personality has stormed the nation in election results, despite the propagation that not much has been delivered by this mysterious man Mr Modi. A snap shot of election campaign reveal us that Modi played to voters' nationalist sentiments to distract from the country's problems and campaigned on a "plank of nationalism and national security" rather than on their governance record. It is even more mysterious what attracts populace towards this mysterious personality. The less in public domain, the bio-data of Mr. Modi, is the untold story, confined to Modi self. The performance of Modi government during concluding tenure attracting much criticism, hue and cry, finding space in many writings and debates, speaking of biased (a harsh reality) media, alleged most controversial performance of ECI, (strengthened by inside controversy in the ECI), in totality have now become in fructuous because of stormy return of the mysterious person. The BJP under Modi stormed the election results. The voters have not considered the capabilities of candidates contesting on BJP ticket but have reposed their faith only on Modi and thereby pressing the button of BJP symbol with Modi picture on their fanciful canvass of feelings and thoughts. In the fanciful story, the elected MPs (barring few) are like helpless herd, not much cherished and liked by the voters. In common man's mind they are just lucky creatures and pieces of decorations in the Parliament and but so ever slogans in their praise are raised are just customarily. They, especially from our state, must realize it as they have taken the flight to Parliament riding on the shoulders of Mr. Modi but not on their own capabilities and performance. At the same time, we, the voters should not look towards these MPs for any visionary schemes for their betterment as every stream will flow from the mindset of the mysterious person going to be the chief executive of the Government of India i.e. PM.
As PM Narendra Modi secured a huge victory in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, reactions also poured in from World's Media. Some of the factors (from search engines) have been casted by oversea media, for the stormy return of the Modi that we cast as charisma. The Washington Post said expectations that Modi would boost the economy and generate employment after his famous win in 2014 "remain unfulfilled", this time Modi instead pushed a message of nationalist pride, telling voters that he was the only candidate who would safeguard the country's security and fight terrorism". In Modi's victory, "voters endorsed his vision of a muscular, assertive and fundamentally Hindu India". The new site termed as charismatic but polarizing. An editorial in Pakistan's Dawn newspaper wrote that "leading up to Mr Modi's campaign were marked by anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan rants"; it accused India of "going so far as to escalate tensions by conducting airstrikes inside Pakistan in order to whip up nationalist. The New York Times gave a lowdown of the key take aways of the poll and remarked that Modi struck a populist tone along with evocation of mythical Hindu figures and framed the verdict as a win for ordinary Indians. British media outlet, The Guardian remarked that the landslide win for Mr Modi will see India's soul lost to a dark politics. About charismatic figure of Modi, it remarked that rather than transcend the fault lines of Indian society - religion, caste, region and language - Mr Modi's style is to throw them into sharp relief. Mr Modi deployed with terrible effect false claims and partisan facts. The Los Angeles Times, quoted director of the Georgetown India Initiative at Georgetown University, that Amit Shah and Modi ran one of the most polarizing campaigns in Indian history. The BBC said that PM Modi made the elections all about himself. A mix of "nationalist rhetoric, subtle religious polarization and a slew of welfare programmes" helped the PM. The News International said that Modi won because the Congress allowed him to. "If Modi has won despite the long history of failures on the economic front, bad governance and the open war on religious minorities, it is because the opposition, especially the Congress, allowed him to."
Come what may, at home ground, an attitudinal change at both levels i.e. treasury and opposition benches can usher new era of development instead of always with folded sleeves to pounce on each other. The economic engine needs revving with bolder reforms and job creation measures. Agricultural rural economy needs urgent attentions. It is time to move towards taking bold steps to overhaul our systems at the grass root level to bridge the sharp divide amongst the rural and urban India and rich and poor, especially vis-à-vis education, health, and corruption sectors than keeping them mere election slogans. We hope for a new beginning of inclusive growth, which helps the common man; renewed vigor in creating more opportunities for all; progressive thought and reforms that enable growth. Such an environ, where realities of living together with our fellow human beings, a way of life dedicated to the daily effort of building a society in which the joy of living is shared by all, is the need of the present. Let the 17th Lok Sabha should put joint efforts in achieving this goal. Let Mr Modi take initiatives branding himself as a magician for development and forward pushes and come out from his image as apostle of fake promises and establishing him as mysterious personality to woo the voters and to just win elections.
