Several doctors root for making evening clinics operational | Doctors’ Private Practice | | NITESH SANGRAL EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 10: Appreciating government’s planning to ban private practice of the government doctors, under the directions of Lieutenant Governor, several doctors of Jammu province appealed to make operational the much-hyped but defunct evening clinics which were started by the then government at a few selected nursing homes. Moreover, some of the doctors believed that the government should impose a blanket ban on the private practices in view of deteriorating health sector and save the precious institutes across Jammu. It will also help to give quality education in the health institutes. Here need to mention that after receiving various complaints received by the office of the Lieutenant Governor, on January 22, 2020 it had asked the Health and Medical Education Department to look into the matter of banning private practices of the doctors. Keeping in view the shortage of private health institutes in Jammu province, the doctors stated that to cater to the requirement of those who can afford the private treatment, the erstwhile state government had proposed to open evening clinics in the premier hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir in order to provide better health care facilities to poor and needy people on May 1, 2013. Astonishingly, that time there were only three doctors who were offering their services in the evening clinic established in GMC Hospital over their private practices. The evening clinics apparently were shut down due the personal interest of few doctors in the Government Medical College and Hospital as they were unwilling to share revenue with the government. Doctors also stated that the government should take strict action in this regards with proper planning and evening clinics should be provided with requisite infrastructure to make the proposal operational. |
