Ayurvedic, Unani colleges fail to meet deadlines

JAMMU, Feb 10: Notwithstanding the tall claims of Government it has failed to shift the Ayurvedic College Jammu to its new college complex Akhnoor. According to sources the work on construction of Ayurvedic College inAkhnoor area was started in 2010 which was first proposed in Vijaypur area of Samba district and later the prosal was changed and college complex was shifted to Akhnoor area of Jammu district in 2010 by the Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma. Since then the College has not been constructed and it has failed to meet several deadlines of it's construction, sources said.
Some times back Government had stated that building will be completed by November last year and college which is functioning in Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu would be shifted to Akhnoor by end of November has not materialised and college has failed to meet yet another deadline, sources added.Part 2: Sources said in last one decade authorities which gave several deadlines for commissioning of project failed to meet the same as work on this prestigious project is going at snail's pace.
Sources said the cost has also escalated to a great extent and initial estimated cost of project which was Rs 20 crore has doubled by one and half in last one decade, sources added.
Sources said the building is complete but it needs finishing touch as interior works are incomplete. The doctors jostle has not been constructed and students if shifted there may face acccomodation problem , sources added.
Sources said the rules have not been framed and Indian Medicine Council of India is unable to maintain any check on it.Part 3: Sources said though Ayurvedic college Jammu is functioning under makeshift arrangements, the authorities have failed to start Unani College in Ganderbal Kashmir Valley despite rising public demand.
Sources said no headway has been made for construction of college building on which work continues to run on very slow.
Moreover there is no fullfedge college Principle and Principle GMC Jammu is looking after Ayurvedic College Jammu and despite many pleas Government has failed to post a fullfledged Principal to the college resulting into a lot of public.
