In Kashmir, no sympathy for Omar-Mehbooba over PSA
‘This is Karma –Tit-for Tat’

Srinagar, Feb 10: Even as the government has slapped the Public Safety Act (PSA) on two more former Chief Ministers, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, shattering prospects of their release in near future, the people of Kashmir look least bothered to show any sympathy towards the detained duo.
While both the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party and some other parties including the Congress have criticized the government for slapping the PSA, there has been no support from the public quarters.
Many in Kashmir have been saying that it was NC founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah who had framed the PSA in 1978 and that now the same law has been applied on his son and grandson alike.
“He who digs a pit for others himself falls in it. Nobody has any sympathy towards these Abdullahs and Muftis, who would rule the state like dictators and had misused this law to settle personal scores,” said Showkat Ahmed.
Infact, the people of Kashmir, who have access to social media websites like Facebook and Twitter have hailed the government for the decision of booking the former Chief Ministers under the PSA.
The social media posts are flooded with alleged hatred towards the former Chief Ministers including Dr Farooq Abdullah who was booked under the PSA last year.
On the social media, the people have even confronted Iltija Mufti, daughter of Mehbooba Mufti for condemning the slapping of the PSA. The twitter handles told Iltija that it was “tit-for-tat” for what former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir had done to people of Kashmir.
“This is Karma,” said a twitter handle adding that Mehbooba as the Chief Minister had booked scores of Kashmiris under the same law “for no fault of theirs.”
It is pertinent to mention that at least five senior politicians including Dr Abdullah, Omar and Mehbooba have been booked under the PSA. The two others are NC leader Ali Muhammad Sagar and PDP’s Naeem Akhter.
Despite efforts their respective parties have failed to rope in public support to condemn the slapping of the PSA.
Despite repeated attempts the spokespersons of the two parties were not available for comments.
