K Koushal JAMMU, Apr 18: In yet another incident of negligence and callousness, the administration of prestigious Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) reportedly put lives of patients on stake by keeping Operation Theatre (OT) shut for one day, resulting into postponement of eight major operations. According to official sources in the hospital, OT remained shut for entire day due to non availability of Diesel for the Boiler. "Around eight major operations scheduled for the day were postponed due to non-availability of Diesel. The administration was informed well in advance regarding need for diesel, for the Boiler that is necessary for sterilization of surgical equipments, but they shrugged," said official source wishing anonymity. He added that due to lethargic approach of the administration, the Diesel was not provided for the Boiler, resulting into the postponement of major operations, which put lives of eight patients in danger. "Out of nine postponed operations, six were crucial, which hospital authorities had scheduled on priority basis," he said. A senior doctor in the hospital pleading anonymity shared that this is the sheer negligence on the part of hospital administration and would have amounted to loss of life. "In my professional career I have never witnessed such a blunder, wherein callous approach of the hospital administration resulted in shut down of the Operation Theatre in the GMC&H for the whole day," said Doctor.
