NC-Congress Kargil units defy leadership; field 'rebel' candidates | ET Report vindicated | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Apr 18: Alliance partners National conference (NC) and Congress reconceived a major jolt after NC and Congress Kargil units of Ladakh division instead of supporting NC-Congress alliance candidate announced their two separate candidates to contest ongoing Parliamentary elections from the area. The move has vindicated Early Times report published on April 7, 2014 wherein it had reported that two religious institutions namely Islamia School and Imam Khumaini Memorial trust (IKMT) could announce their separate candidates instead of supporting NC-Congress alliance candidate from Ladakh division namely T. Sampal. According to details, both the religious institutions supporting NC and Congress units of Kargil district contrary to the decision of their high commands have announced separate candidates to contest ongoing Lok Sabha election from the area. The details reveal that the religious institution Imam Khumaini Memorial trust backing Congress unit of Kargil District have fielded the acting president and former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Ghulam Raza as an Independent candidate who will also be supported by Councilors of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council LAHDC of Kargil district, while as Islamia School supporting NC unit of Kargil have fielded Mohammad Syed Kazmi as their candidate and both the candidates besides candidates of other political parties will contest against NC-Congress alliance candidate T. Samphal. Talking to Early Times, Chief Executive Councilor of LAHDC of Kargil District, Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai said that fielding separate candidates is the result of differences which broke out between NC and Congress units of Kargil after High command announced T. Samphal as alliance candidate without consulting the office bearers of two religious institutions having got name and fame in the area. Sources said that despite tremendous efforts from the office bearers of both NC and Congress units of Kashmir division to contest Lok Sabha polls on pre-poll alliance pattern and support only alliance candidate T. Samphal from Ladakh division, however due to the deep rooted differences between NC and Congress units of Kargil no consensus could be made on the issue resulting in separate candidates instead of following pre-poll alliance pact of their high commands. |
