Militant strikes puts question mark on CM's AFSPA revocation demand | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 18: Two back to back strikes by Pakistani militants in Valley followed by killing of a Sarpanch at Gulzarpora the previous day have put a question mark on Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah's rhetoric on revocationl of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from the State. The killing of two police men deployed for security of NC leader who had visited his residence on Sunday to meet the Party men and have a feed back on the ongoing Lok Sabha elections viz a viz Party's position in Pampore Assembly segment has also put a question mark on security arrangements for the politicians of mainstream parties. The killing of the two police men in the security of NC leader has also revealed that there are security lapses and the authorities looking after the security of public figures have taken the issue lightly despite fact that militants have always caught the security agencies napping while carrying out strikes in different parts of the State. According to sources the presence of Pakistani militants in the high security Khrew area has been a cause of concern for the security agencies as well. Sources said the security agencies are also in a dilemma that where from the two terrorists managed to reach the high security Khrew area and who were the people guiding and harbouring them. There are even apprehensions about the presence of more Fidyaeens in the area in view of killing of a Sarpanch Mohammad Amin Pandit at Gulzarpora, Awantipora in area of the same district yesterday, sources added. Sources said instead of taking tough measures in combating terrorism and breaking their back the State Government was advocating for revocation of AFSPA and CRPF without giving a serious thought to repercussions of such a move. Sources said the Government of India should also in unequivocal terms ask the Chief Minister not to rake up the issue of AFSPA revocation and mislead the public opinion as the terrorists were neither down nor out and Government needed to take stern action against them. Sources said in case the GoI also continues its stoic silence over the issue, situation will further drift in the State and the life of common man will again be put at risk in Kashmir valley. |
