Farooq Abdullah's untenable, laughable suggestion
Article 370

JAMMU, Apr 18: Union Minister and National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Thursday had made a ridiculous and untenable statement in Srinagar and statement was to the effect that Jammu and Kashmir's accession with India will end automatically if the BJP tampers with Article 370 as claimed by them in their election manifesto. "Accession will end automatically if Article 370 is tempered with. Any attempt to fiddle with it will open old wounds which would be difficult to heal," he said while talking to reporters after addressing a youth rally of the NC at Aramvari, Zero Bridge, and added that "Article 370 is a bridge between Jammu and Kashmir and India. "If the bridge falls, we too will fall apart from rest of the country," said Farooq Abdullah, who is the party candidate from Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency where the people will go to the polls on April 30. Earlier, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had also made a similar statement and asserted that any move aimed at playing with the Article 370 would open the question of JK's accession with India.
Farooq Abdullah not only challenged the critics of Article 370 and said that state would secede from India in case Article 370 is repealed or fiddled with, but also said that the NC stands for autonomy. Not just this, he also said: "the Congress supports autonomy demand. Who says they (Congress) don't. When the copy of autonomy demand was presented to former Pakistan President General Parvez Musharraf by Omar Abdullah, Musharraf stated that the document is workable". In other words, he said that even Pakistan under Musharraf was supportive of the NC and its so-called Kashmir solution. Farooq Abdullah's whole formulation on Article 370 is not only flawed but also outrageous and divisive. He says the repeal of Article 370 would mean secession of Jammu and Kashmir from India. What has this pernicious, anti-people, anti-democratic and anti-state Article to do with the accession of the state to India? Article 370 was adopted as a temporary measure in October 1949 - two years after the Maharaja of the state took his decision on the political future of the state in terms of the constitutional law on the subject. Article 370 was nothing but a Congress's conspiracy hatched against the nation and to fulfill the communal urges of Sheikh Abdullah, father of Farooq Abdullah. Indeed, frustrated Farooq Abdullah made a desperate attempt at arousing passions in the Valley for votes. Nobody will ever buy his spurious argument. No power on earth can snatch even an inch of land from India as the nation is committed to maintaining unity and integrity of the country and neutralizing the baneful influence of communal forces as represented by the NC and similar other fake secular outfits. He should not take the people of the state in general and Jammu province and Ladakh region in particular. They have defeated the regressive politics of Farooq Abdullah and his ilk and they will do so in the future as well. They would do well to recall what happened to them in Jammu in 2008.
Farooq Abdullah also says that the NC and the Congress stand for autonomy. Let him say what he wants to say, but the fact of the matter is that it was the pressure from Jammu and Ladakh that forced the Union Government to dilute Article 370 between 1953 and 1975 and even thereafter and they would not abandon their integrate the state fully with India age old campaign. Almost 70 per cent of Article 370 stands eroded and the remaining 30 per cent will also be eroded in due course of time. He must remember that the NC has already lost most of its sheen and appeal by pursuing divisive policies and it would become totally irrelevant in case it continues to make ridiculous statements of the type he and his son have been making to fool the people.
