Income Tax department facing shortage of staff | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 17: The Income Tax department of Jammu and Kashmir is facing shortage of staff which has hampered the working of the department. The Income Tax refunds of the people of Jammu and Kashmir are being delayed due to lack of assistant staff under the Income Tax Officers. The Income Tax departments have several Income Tax Officers (ITO)s, under whom one Inspector and 3-4 assistants are required, who processes the income tax returns of the assesses and the keep record of the past several years. But for the last eight years the Income Tax department, which is creating milestones in the history of Jammu and Kashmir by collecting the revenue of Rs 1000 cr, is running short of staff. The employees of the department, which is achieving more than the targets given to them by the head offices, are actually over burdened with the work in the state. But the higher authorities seems to be busy in creating more milestone by collecting more revenue, that too by putting more burden on the employees. "Earlier there were four assistants and one inspector under one ITO but this time one ITO has only one assistant, which is showing negative impact on its work," sources said. The government is not taking any measures to address the issue and it is allowing the people who are evading tax are getting scot free. "If government doesn't take strong measures, the department will remain only for name and no work could be done here," sources added. |
