Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 18: Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat members have condemned the killing of a Sarpanch in Kashmir Valley and alleged that the state government has failed to identify the killers. Muhammad Amin Pandit , a sarpanch of village Gulazarpora, district Awantipora, South Kashmir was yesterday killed by unidentified militants in Kashmir. "It is a desperate attempt of the terrorists who are hell bent to derail the smooth electioneering process in the country," Anil Sharma, president of All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference here today said.
"We share the grief of the family of the martyr Sarpanch, the killings of innocent panchayat members depicts the frustration of these anti-democratic forces who otherwise have failed to mark their presence in Jammu and Kashmir," he added. The Conference leader said, "we will never bow down before these coward people (terrorists) who cannot fight Panchayat people with ballot". AJKPC also alleged that these killings confirm the fact that the incumbent state coalition government is deliberately not taking any measure for the safety and security of Panches and Sarpanches so that a sense of insecurity prevails amongst the common voters and they do not come out to cast their vote in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, which would favour the NC Coalition government politically.
"National Conference led coalition government under the Chief Ministership of Omar Abdullah have failed to tell the people of Jammu and Kashmir that who are people responsible for killing of seven innocent panchayat members," he claimed. "We once again urge the Government of India to seriously consider and take all necessarily measures so that Panchs and Sarpanchs fearlessly devote their time and energy for the developmental process," he added. Sharma however, reiterated demand for sufficient ex-gratia amount to the family members of the deceased panchayat members and job to their next kin.
