DCDC, University of Kashmir gives a damn to directive from Higher Edu Deptt
Mars career of scores of deserving aspirants

SRINAGAR, July 23: Authorities at the University of Kashmir have virtually bye-passed a directive from the Higher Education department asking them to cancel the counseling of candidates for different under-graduate courses offered by the university and its affiliated colleges.
Acting on the representation of one Tuba Rashid daughter of Abdul Rashid Dar resident of Namchibal-Fateh Kadal, Mohammad Raiyaz, Under Secretary, Higher Education Department wrote a letter to Dean College Development Council, University of Kashmir asking him to present a factual report of the complaint lodged by the complainant.
Tuba had lodged a complaint with the Dean College Development Council, University of Kashmir in which she wrote that the candidates who had not applied for the Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA) programme had been called for counseling since some seats remained vacant after some of the selected candidates did not opt for the course later on. The complainant wrote that only those candidates should be called for counseling who applied and could not make it to the original selection lists.
Tuba lodged this complaint on July 14, 2014 and in the complaint she requested the Dean College Development Council, University of Kashmir to get the notification regarding the counseling issued on July 12, 2014 revoked. It was expected that the varsity authorities would look into the complaint and satisfy the complainant to the best possible level, but that was not to be. After receiving the representation the Under Secretary on July 16, 2014 under correspondence number HE/GEN/Cancel Notif/2014 asked the Dean College Development Council, University of Kashmir to furnish the factual report in the matter to the department at the earliest. It was expected that the varsity authorities would adhere to the directive but they did not.
The university authorities instead of correcting the wrongs pit up the final selection list on July 19. No heed whatsoever was paid to the correspondence made by the Under Secretary of the Higher Education Department. This came as a shocker to Tuba and many other candidates who also suffered on the same count. Tuba was selected under the payment category for BBA at Government College for Women, Nawa Kadal.
"It is sheer injustice that the candidates who had not applied for the programmes have been selected in the general category while as those who had applied have been selected against the payment seats quota. The university authorities are hell bent on damaging the career of our wards and we cannot remain mute spectators to this whole episode," said a delegation of parents while sharing their views with Early Times.
The parents said that more than 50 percent of the candidates selected in the latest list for programmes like BBA, Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) and Bachelor of Science Information Technology (B.Sc IT) had not applied in the admission notification issued on March 17, 2014.
Tuba's father has in the meantime shot a representation to the Vigilance Commissioner and also lodged a complaint with the grievance cell of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. He has made it a point to ensure that justice is meted out to his daughter and the other candidates who have missed the opportunity of pursuing professional under-graduate programmes.
"Let a probe be conducted in this matter so that everything becomes crystal clear. We also request the authorities to extend the last date for completion of admission formalities beyond July 24, 2014 by one week. This will give more time to the parents arrange the money since their wards have been selected against payment category," said the parents.
