Who do really Geelani, Mirwaiz, Malik and Shah represent? | Talks with Pak HC Basit | | Neha JAMMU, Aug 20: Who do really Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, Yasin Malik and Shabir Ahmad Shah represent? Do they represent the people of Jammu province? Certainly not: The people of Jammu province hate them, despite their perverted ideology and say day in and day out that they linked their destiny with India in October 1947 for better for worse and that their commitment to India has further deepened. Do they represent the people of Ladakh, including the Buddhists and Shiite Muslims? Certainly not: The people of the cold-desert Ladakh, like the people of Jammu province, hate them and their ideology and see in New Delhi their saviour. Similarly, do really Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, Yasin Malik and Shabir Ahmad Shah represent the internally displaced Kashmiri Hindus and their aspirations? Of course, not: They are the victims of their process of radicalization. They had to vacate their homes and hearths in early 1990 to escape their physical liquidation and save their honour and dignity. They have been struggling since then for a separate homeland in the Valley, saying they could not co-exist with those who drove them out of their original habitat. Indeed, these persecuted Kashmiri Hindus want the Government of India to eliminate them and others who converted into a veritable hell what was once upon a time called paradise on earth. Do they represent Kashmiri Sikhs and their aspiration? Of course not: Most of the have already migrated out of Kashmir and others are in the process of migrating. They considered Kashmir unsafe for them. Similarly, these separatists do not represent Shiite Muslims and Muslim sects. Then, who they represent and what they are? They represent themselves and their vested interests. They are no more than mercenaries who are exploiting the name of their religion for worldly gains; they are living on the blood and sweat of common Kashmiri Muslims; they are living like princes at the cost of common Kashmiri Muslims; they are hobnobbing with many anti-India forces, minting easy money and leading a luxurious life; they have amassed huge wealth and set up huge business houses in Srinagar and outside; these enemies of peace and humanity have been only playing havoc in Kashmir; and the worst part of the whole situation is that it is establishment in J&K and sections of media who are enabling them to survive, thrive and enjoy. It will be only appropriate if someone may says so that some elements in the establishment and these so-called freedom fighters and India haters are working in tandem to promote their own vested interests at the cost of the people and the state itself. These separatists were invited by Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit to Delhi the other day so that he could on behalf of Islamabad ascertain their views on Jammu and Kashmir. They also met with him o Monday and today. Let them meet. Islamabad and Basit are fool. The likes of Geelani cannot help Pakistan in any way promote its seditionist agenda in the state of which Valley is only a very small part. But what else one could expect from the discredited Pakistan. Since it itself stands totally discredited, it is pinning faith in the discredited Kashmiri mercenaries. Pakistan wants to grab Jammu and Kashmir but it doesn't know that it itself is crumbling like a house of cards. Its very existence is in danger. Baluchistan is against Islam, Shiite Muslims are against Islamabad; Sindis are against Islamabad, Mohajirs are against Islamabad; Ahmediyas are against Islamabad; Hindu, Sikh and Christian minorities in Pakistan are against Pakistan; many radical groups, including Tehrik-e-Taliban, are against Sunni-dominated Islamabad. New Delhi did well to cancel talks with Pakistan. This is not enough. It should also tackle the so-called mainstream Kashmiri leaders who are the real culprits. Had any of the successive Governments in the state acted against the handful of secessionists in an effected manner, things in Kashmir today would have been somewhat different. They, like the Congress or Congress-led Governments in Delhi, didn't discharge their constitutional obligations for reasons not really difficult to understand and the results are before our eyes. The time has come to call the Kashmiri bluff and restore peace in the Valley on a permanent basis through all available means. |
