Srinagar, Nov 10: As state congress is yet to complete its nomination of candidates to contest upcoming assembly elections for the party, party high command, with the intention to increase number of seats to make way for another coalition, has decided not to field candidates against Ghulam Hassan Mir, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami and Hakeem Yaseen after consultations with them.
Sources in Congress said that consultations between CPI(M) state secretary Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, who contests from South Kashmir's Kulgam district, Ghulam Hassan Mir who contests from Tangmarg constituency and Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen who contests from Khan Sahab of Central Kashmir's Budgam District are going on at many fronts and the party high command is all set to help these three politicians by not fielding Congress candidates against them in their constituencies.
Sources said that the party high command had consulted the three leaders days before the Congress announced its first list of candidates and after seeking assurance from them that they would support congress after winning elections and would only be part of the Congress-led coalition government.
National Conference (NC) and Peoples democratic Party (PDP) have already announced their candidates for Kulgam, Tangmarg and Khansahab constituencies against Mir,Tarigami and Yaseen.
"The party high command is working tirelessly to increase the number of seats so that Congress can remain a share holder in the next government in Jammu and Kashmir for the third consecutive term.
Some other likeminded candidates, who are contesting independently were also said to be in constant touch with Congress high command.
Sources said the Congress was also approaching some lesser known political parties so that a strong political unit under the banner of Congress could be built to become part of the next government.
When contacted, state Congress vice-president GhulamNabiMonga said 'consultations at high command level are going on whether to field or not to field candidates against Mir, Tarigami and Yaseen. Ghulam Hassan Mir is not a Congress worker.
He is contesting on his own. We are in constant touch with them, party high command will decide in a day or two about his matter.'
