Shortage of doctors, pharmacists paralyses Chinta PHC's functioning | Ayurvedic doctor running health institution for years | | Bijay Charak Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 10: The coalition government might have been boasting of having improved healthcare facilities to all in the state but the condition of Primary Health Center (PHC) in Chinta block of Bhaderwah is exposing these claims as maximum of posts are lying vacant and medicines are also missing from there. A resident of Chinta said the Chinta PHC has sanctioned strength of five doctors including three Assistant Surgeons and a Dental Surgeon of Allopathic and an Ayurvedic doctor but at present only Ayurvedic doctor is running the health institution and all four posts of allopathic doctors have been lying vacant for the last few years. "The PHC has a labour room and laboratory facilities but in absence of a gynecologist and other doctors, not a single delivery has been conducted there for years. Medicines are also missing," sources said. Even for a minor ache in teeth, one has to cover miles on foot and then travel by bus to reach Sub- District Hospital, Bhaderwah. "The ambulance sanctioned to the PHC was also running in Sub-District Hospital, Bhaderwah," another Chinta resident alleged. "I went to PHC Chinta, but an Ayurvedic doctor, who was present there referred the patient to Sub- district hospital Bhaderwah, but due to lack of manpower in Sub district hospital they shifted the patient to district hospital, Doda, followed by his referral to GMCH, Jammu", he said. Castigating state government he said, "If government cannot providing facilities, why such PHCs should not be closed." "Politician treat us as only their voters and during election time, they come for votes but have never done any work for the welfare of we people," he added. The PHC Chinta has been catering to the needs of more than eight thousand souls. On one hand government claimed that Primary Health Centers should have 24-hour emergency services but PHC Chinta has no doctors available. An Ayurvedic doctor along with one paramedical and other class IV staff has been rendering services in PHC Chinta, where there is no manpower and medicines available, and for a normal delivery or test like X-Ray or ultrasound, people have to go to Doda district hospital or GMCH, Jammu. When contacted Block Medical Officer, Bhaderwah, Dr Anil said that he was a responsible person of Bhaderwah administration and could not share information on phone because his calls could be tapped. "If you want information related to any health institution please visit my office or file RTI", he added. |
