Mufti safe, Sagar challanged in den, Omar in triangular contest | | | Javaid Naikoo

Srinagar, Dec 12: The fourth phase of assembly polls scheduled for 14 of December will cover all important Srinagar once considered as NC bastion, Anantnag mixed Congress and PDP bastions and Shopian strong hold of PDP with two chief ministerial candidates Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and Omar Abdullah, besides J&K legislative assembly Speaker, Mubarak Gul, Ali Muhammad Sagar and Muhammad Khursheed Alam who is credited to make inroads for PDP in Srinagar over the years. Of the 182 canidates on December 14, eighteen will give tough times to politicians like Omar Abdullah who is contesting on from Sonawar after switching over from ancestral battle ground Ganderbal against Muhammad Ashraf of PDP and Khem Lata Wakhloo of Congress. At a time when Chief Ministerial candidate of PDP,Mufti Muhammad Sayeed seeking re-election from Anantnag is on safe turf this time after Senior NC leader Dr Mehboob Beg surrendered his seat to NC and decided not to contest against Mufti. Senior NC leader Ali Muhammad Sagar is challenged in his den Khanyar by fromer trade union leader Muhammad Khursheed Alam who is credited to make inroads for PDP in Srinagar city and is likely to give tough times to Sagar in his den for the first time ever in Sagar's political career. Besides Sagar and Omar, NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani will be challenged by Muhammad Altaf Bukhari of PDP in Amira Kadal and Mubarak Gul by Ali Muhammad of PDP in Eidgah constituency. For state Congress it will be Peerzada Muhammad contesting form Kokernag and G.A Mir from Dooru who according to Congress vice President G.N Monga will retain their seats comfortably as according to him both the leaders have gained overwhelming support in their respective constituencies over the years. Pertinently as Srinagar is considered a strong bastion of NC,PDP which came to limelight in 1999 as a new political platform with some renowned political faces of Kashmir has performed better in south Kashmir's Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam and some pockets of north Kashmir. |
