KUPWARA, Dec 12: People across the state might be eagerly waiting for the assembly election results which are scheduled to be announced on December 23, but the residents of Kupwara district, seem indifferent as their district has not seen much development during the last two decades.
Kupwara district is represented by two National Conference Legislators Mir Saifullha and Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, however scores of villages in this hilly areas are annoyed with their representatives as they believe that they have ignored the area.
The inhabitants across the district spoke to early times against their legislators as they suffer for electricity, pure drinking water, bad roads, transport, colleges, High and Higher secondary, health care, unemployment and what not.
Wishing anonymity a resident of Kupwara town says that, brisk business and a buzz of people remains present here in the town but our district lacks basic facilities, like parking for vehicles, space for vendors, and public conveniences and a public park, lanes and by lanes in the town are completely damaged.
Kupwara town is being considered as the face of the district but people and traders here equally blame the legislators for failing to develop it as a district head quarter.
Another local resident said that the whole district has not proper connectivity from Baramulla and Sopore areas as the bridge on river Jhelum at Sopore is being built by BEACON authorities for the last two decades, despite missing several deadlines.
Local residents of the town say that the incomplete bridge is a source of various troubles for us. Our movements and business is hampered from Sopore as the town itself has a big problem of roads and all.
Citing an example of Manzpathri, Manchatri, Zonrashi, Khanabal, Reingward, Marsari, they also face some problems like water shortage, electricity crises in their area. The inner link roads are in dilapidated conditions.
All the political parties have come here and made their customary speeches filled with rhetoric and lies. Recently another so called PC Chief Sijad Lone also said that we will be for the next six years.
Yes we must tell you that it is the only people who could change the destiny of this poor state and can make the distinction between the good and bad leader who could work for the betterment of their constituencies, they said.
However they added, there is no doubt that we want our district to be developed as a tourist destination, we want excellent health care facilities, and we want academic institutions, we want four lane road from Srinagar to Kupwara and we want our district should be made as a model district in the state.
Take an example of Trehgam block there are different villages like Shumnag, Malpora, Kunan, Poshpora, Hirri, Hayen, Kababmarg, Awoora. These villages are still facing drinking water and electricity problems and there are number of educated youth who are unemployed, they added.
