People turn experts, predict poll results | | | Shakeel A Khan Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 12: After remaining busy with election related activities for almost two months, the people of areas where voting has already taken place are working hard to work out an accurate exit poll. People are contacting the relatives and friends to know about the facts regarding the votes cast. It is for the first time over the past three decades or so that assembly elections have drawn such enthusiasm from the people. The people who have favoured a change this time seem eager to celebrate it in fashion. "My family which remained away from the elections from the 1996 onwards, voted for a change and not even a single vote was wasted this time. My grandmother had gone to her relatives' couple of days before the polling day and when she didn't return to home, I got restless sensing that her vote might get wasted," said Zubair Ahmad from Beerwah, Budgam. Zubair said that to make sure that her grandmother cast her vote, he arranged a vehicle against a payment of one thousand rupees to get her to the polling booth to register her will for change. He said that the same kind of enthusiasm prevailed in those people of his locality who hadn't voted since 1987. The people who hadn't voted so for and seem to be committed to bring a change on the political front of the state seemed to be hungry for voting. Not only this, these people made sure that they reach the polling booths earlier than their opponents to lay a strong base for the change. The people who cast there are busy these days in doing election related activities. These people have forgotten about their daily routine and are collecting data about the votes cast. They are also getting information about the vote share of different candidates and parties. "I am a private school teacher and my income is not that much that I can afford to waste my time. But ever since the voting was over in our district, I visited almost every village to have the first-hand account of the possible outcome of the election. Based on my own survey I can tell you that most of the sitting MLAs from my district may not be visible any more in the assembly," said Abdul Karim, a resident of Budgam. What is more interesting that the women are not behind their male counterparts? They are asking different questions to their relatives on phone. These vary from the person voted for and also the reasons behind the choice. |
