JAMMU, Dec 12: In sheer violation of Heritage Society Act, District Election Office (DEO) Jammu reportedly gave permission to Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) for organizing a rally in Mubarak Mandi heritage complex on Thursday by Member Parliament Hema Malini.
Though Hema Malini did not turn up for the rally but BJP workers had assembled there and left the venue after getting information that the BJP star campaigner had called off the proposed rally. The executive members of Society have however taken the issue seriously.
The executive members of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society informed Early Times that no one was authorized to give permission for any political rally of any kind in the complex of heritage society complex, without the permission of Society.
"DEO is responsible for any election related activity and is giving permission for holding rallies inside heritage site which was totally in violation of spirit of Heritage Act", they said, adding that they were surprised to find that a political party was given permission, whose workers also pasted posters and buntings in the complex.
They added that before holding rally no one sought permission from the Society. "None of members were aware about the rally and the executive director of Society was also helpless in rejecting the orders of Deputy Commissioner Jammu", they said.
The Governing body of Heritage Society is headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the executive body members included Director Tourism, Soujanya Sharma, Narinder Singh Jamwal, Zafar Ahmed Khan, Prof. Sahoor-u-Din, B.B. Raina and Darshan Gupta.
Talking to Early Times Narinder Singh Jamwal and Zafar Ahmed Khan said that it was total violation of Heritage Society Act as none of Society member was aware of permission. "When we enquired from the employees in the office of Executive Director of Society, they informed that Deputy Commissioner Jammu had given the permission and executive director of Society felt helplessness to cancel the permission", they said.
They further said, "this is not for the first time that DEO has violated Heritage Society Act, earlier he had also given permission to Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) for laying of water supply pipes and after objection by members Chief Minister had constituted a committee and had also stopped the work", they said.
They said that the society would press for stern action against the erring officials. They added that the responsible citizen should not perform such act which harms the structure of heritage site like Mubarak Mandi.
As per the Revenue records, the heritage complex is spread over an area of 120 kanals and 16 marlas. The architecture of the palace represents a unique blend of Rajasthani, Mughal and Baroque European influences.
