Bijay Charak Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 12: A CT scan machine worth more than Rs. One crore, procured by state government around two years back for Sub district Hospital Bhaderwah, is still inoperative owing to non-availability of technical medical and paramedical staff to operate the same. Sources informed Early Times that the CT scan (Computerized Tomography) single slice, provided by state government to Sub District hospital Bhaderwah in the year 2013 has been gathering dust for the last nearly two years for want of staff. They further said that CT scan is one of the fastest and most accurate tools for examining the chest, abdomen, pelvis and also helpful to examine patients with injuries from trauma. But in absence of requisite manpower the machine was dumped in a corner of SDH Bhaderwah. To run the machine , it requires a Radiologist, a trained Technician, one paramedical and one Class IV staff but it was very surprising the department of Health Jammu has failed to sanction staff in hospital to run the machine. Whenever there was an accident or a trauma patient, the doctors are compelled to shift the patients to district Hospital Doda, or Government Medical College Jammu. Castigating the authorities, sources said, if machine is available then why no staff has been provided. "The purpose for which the machine was given is defeated as the machine is of no use", they said, alleging that it was a nexus of department and doctors, who have been making money through the commission from private CT scan operators. The machine plays a significant role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of vascular diseases that can lead to stroke, kidney failure or even death", sources said and adding that moreover, the machine could be useful in diagnosing and treating spinal problems and injuries to hands, feet and other skeletal structures. It is pertinent to mention here that the CT scan was used extensively for accident victims, particularly in detecting injury to the brain. CT scan is done for all accident victims who have sustained head injuries. They further said that due to callousness of concerned Minister, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, there are many other services available in the hospital but not operational. "Focus of the ministers and administration is to place orders for new machinery and extract commission but never bothered about providing staff", they alleged. However, despite repeated calls to Block Medical Officer Dr. Anil Kumar, he didn't respond. |
