Jammu, Feb 12: Mountaineering Association of J&K shall depute three sport climbers, Sonam Sidharth, Anil Kumar and Aman Arora for a three- day National Belayers' Course at Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi, the apex body for surface adventure sports in the country. The course is being conducted by IMF from March 23 to March 25. "The aim of the course is to produce trained belayers who can maximize the safety of the climbers during sport climbing training and competitions. It may be mentioned here that a belayer (the person who handles the rope) is responsible for the safety of the climber during a lead or a speed climbing competition," general secretary of the Association , Ram Khajuria told SAN. During the course the trainees shall be imparted knowledge about harnesses and their proper use besides familiarity with the belaying devices. They shall also learn how to stop all falls in a safe and dynamic manner. Instructions and rules about checking the equipment before the climb and other safety measures shall also be given to the trainees, he informed. Whereas Chairman of IMF North Zone Committee, S. Bhattacharjee shall be the course Co-ordinator, Ganesh Singh of Delhi, Kalyan Dev of Kolkata and Amit Sharma of Delhi, all senior national belayers, shall impart practical training to the participants. He disclosed that the climbers are likely to be sponsored by J&K State Sports Council. |
