Legislative Council elections: BJP leadership opposes tickets to "newcomers" | | | Avinash Azad Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 12: After crushing defeat in Delhi assembly elections BJP leadership is moving very cautiously in selecting candidates for the Legislative Council seats. The party has almost decided not to give mandate to those new-comers who have joined party when popularity of BJP was growing. Credible sources in the BJP said that a Union Minister, who is projecting these high-profile influential "new-comers" at the cost of genuine workers is also sidelined by the high command after Delhi's disastrous because it was the same Union Minister who had play a dominate role in distribution of party tickets in Delhi elections. The same Union Minister has been playing all important in the politics of Jammu and Kashmir but propriety demands that he should keep his hands away from the politics of Jammu and Kashmir. Some "newcomers" have reportedly approached that Union Minister to get accommodated in the Upper House but that Minister has shown his helplessness because he himself is under fire for wrong distribution of tickets in Delhi assembly elections. Credible sources said that party leadership has started exercise to shortlist candidates for the Legislative Council elections in which most of the senior members made it clear that tickets should be given to only those leaders who have been associated with the party since long. Sources said party has decided to give mandate to some Muslims also and names of some dedicated workers like Sakina Bano, Engineer Ghulam Ali were discussed. "Party leaders were unanimous that names of newcomers would never be discussed for the Legislative Council elections", a senior leader, who does not want to be quoted, said. |
