Delhi's Kissan Ghar hosts bureaucrats, not farmers | | | Shakeel A Khan SRINAGAR, Feb 20: People associated with the agriculture sector in the state might be contributing a lot to the overall economic growth, but as far as providing facilities to them is concerned, the state government has managed a big blob. Despite claims nothing substantial is being done for the overall development of agriculture sector. The agriculture department might be conducting tours for the farmers but when it comes to providing accommodation to them in the union capital there is no such arrangement in place. Sources told Early Times that Kissan Ghar constructed in the Azadpur area of Delhi is being used by people who are in no way connected with the agriculture sector. Non-farmers are using the property meant for the farmers of the state as and when they are outside the state for various activities. "Kissan Ghar was constructed to provide accommodation to the farmers and the fruit growers of the state. On the contrary of this it has actually become the home of bureaucrats, depriving the farmers and fruit growers of this facility," said a group of farmers who were denied accommodation at the Kissan Ghar. The 24 room Kissan Ghar according to these farmers, was constructed so that the visiting farmers do not face any difficulty in terms of accommodation during their stay in Delhi, but as a matter of fact this facility is used by the bureaucrats instead of the farmers. Sources said that not only the bureaucrats, but ministers and MLAs use this facility thus shoeing away the poor farmers. In addition to that the people who are influential, politically or by any other means also enjoy the luxuries in the Kissan Ghar. "When the relatives of the government officials and of those who have influence in the corridors of power visit Delhi, it made sure that the rooms of the Kissan Ghar are reserved for them so that they don't have to suffer for want of the accommodation," said sources. The sources said the aim for which the Kissan Ghar was constructed despite spending crores of rupees, seems not to be serving the purpose as the poor visiting farmers continue to suffer for want of accommodation. "The farmers and the fruit growers who have frequent visits Delhi in connection with the business have either to stay in the rented buildings or they are compelled to spend the time in the trucks under the open sky," said sources. |
