JK Cement Plant Samba inoperative | 'Former Mantri inaugurated it in crushing haste' | | Akshay Azad
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 20: Nearly four months after hasty inauguration of 300 TPD Cement Plant of Jammu and Kashmir Cements Limited (JKCL) at Samba by former Industry Minister Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, same is still inoperative due to ongoing process of installation of required transformer. The 300 TDP Cement Plant of JKCL at Samba was inaugurated by Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo on October 19, 2014 even when the unit was far from completion. The unwarranted haste shown by the Minister was severely criticized. When the cement plant was inaugurated, sources said that a transformer having capacity of 2.5 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) was yet to be brought from Karnataka and the higher officials of JKCL had apprised Kichloo, but he was adamant and unceremoniously inaugurated the unfinished cement plant. Sources in the Samba Cement Plant informed that the main transformer of 2.5 MVA capacity was to be transported from Karnataka, which reached to Samba plant site on January 5, 2015. "Though all electrical connections have been done in the plant while the relay testing of Transformer has also been done by the Pathankot based company which had provided the transformer but still some minor works are left, due to which production in the plant has not started", he said pleading anonymity. Sources said that everyone was aware of the fact that Cement Plant Samba was still under-construction and it would take many more months for operationalization of plant, but under pressure from the then Industry Minister Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, the under-construction plant was inaugurated. "Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo had unceremoniously inaugurated the unfinished Cement plant Samba but the unwarranted haste in inauguration had failed to give any political benefit to Kichloo, who had lost assembly elections from Kishtwar constituency", sources said. Managing Director of JKCL, RK Sharma said that it was a big plant and synchronizing of all units including CTBT connections, Electric Motors, other electrical works was in process. "Trails are under process and it will take some more days to operationalize the plant", he said. |
