Police Inspector "taller" than law | He often displays arrogance, not logics | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 20: Inspector Deepankar Singh, who has remained surrounded by several controversies before and after joining police force, is known more for displaying arrogance and not for showing his prowess at using logics and law while dealing with public. On February 16 last, he had a tiff with police flying squad driver Manjeet Singh on Exchange Road while he was strolling outside his residence. The hot exchange of words had later taken an ugly turn. Being an Inspector, it was seemingly unbecoming of his behaviour. Manjeet was his junior in the force and not a criminal. A case in this connection was registered at Pacca Danga police station. Deepankar's such a behaviour is affected more by the mindset he held before joining police force nearly a decade and a half back when he had a name among criminals of Jammu. Those days he was mostly seen moving with a group of city criminals led by one Oma of Talab Tillo. He enjoyed picking up fights with his school mates and criminals. In one such fight, a gang of criminals led by one Rakka of New Plots had attacked him inside his house with swords. Though he had fled and saved himself, he had sustained a deep cut in the neck. But his criminal activities did not stop even after surviving this murderous attack. As time passed, he earned enemity with the dreaded Billoo gang which ruled the Jammu's criminal world for nearly a decade. The gang members were now after his life but he stopped moving out of his house to avoid falling in their hands. Billoo, who was murdered inside the infamous Ambphalla jail over a decade ago, enjoyed close proximity with then Jammu SSP, who is now ADGP. Billoo, who wanted to establish his authority in the underworld here, was after Deepankar. Though Oma came in his support, he was no match to Billoo and his gang members. In the meantime, Deepankar applied in police force as SI and got selected. He was perhaps undergoing training at PTA, Udhampur, when someone from the Billoo gang told then SSP that since he faced a criminal case in a Jammu police station, he could not be selected in police. The matter was later sorted out. The controversies, however, continued to accompany him wherever he was posted after the completion of his training in PTA, Udhampur. While he was incharge of a police post in Jammu, then SSP had caught him while taking liquor during duty hours. When he was incharge of a police post here, he had publicly beaten a top city criminal, who belongs to the rival gang of Raju Kabutarbaz. Before joining police force, he did not enjoy good relations with this criminal, who owns a shop outside SMGS hospital here. Because of his this background, browbeating people and picking up fights with anyone are very normal for him. |
