Second suspected H1N1 death in Jammu 23 samples sent to NICD, 3 test positive 2/20/2015 11:33:45 PM Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 20: With the second Swine Flu death in the winter capital, the toll has gone up to two in Jammu province. According to reports, a person undergoing treatment in Chest Disease Hospital succumbed Friday. He is suspected of having carried the deadly H1N1 virus. The doctors , however, are investigation to ascertain whether the death was caused by Swine Flu or other ailment. Meanwhile, 23 more samples in the Jammu were sent to National Institute of Communicable Diseases in New Delhi (NICD). Yesterday, a Superintendent of Police Sunil Gupta who died in a private hospital due to respiratory disorder. Officials Sources of GMC hospital informed Early Times that total 23 samples were sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases in New Delhi (NICD) and out of them, seven reports of suspected patients have been received in GMC hospital and three of them tested positive. "Four to five fresh samples were sent to NICD from Jammu on Friday and few patients with infection were admitted in isolation ward established at Chopra Nursing Home of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu," they disclosed. When contacted Medical Superintendent of Chest Diseases Hospital Dr.Manoj Chalotra refused to admit that any patient died in his hospital. He said, "We have heard nothing in this regard since morning." The news of death in Chest Disease Hospital created panic in GMC hospital as well. Junior and senior doctors of GMC hospital and associated hospitals also gathered outside the Principal's office demanding masks and Tamil flu vaccine. The authorities promised to provide proper facilities to them as soon as possible. A Superintendent of Police (SP) was among five persons who have fallen prey to contagious swine flu in Jammu and Kashmir since its outbreak, while at least 99 people have been tested positive for the disease in the state. Kashmir Valley is the worst affected as 96 people have been tested positive for the flu while in Jammu region three people were reported to be affected from the flu. Four persons have died in Kashmir Valley and in Jammu, Superintendent of Police (Admin) Sunil Gupta succumbed to the disease yesterday.
