Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Feb 20: The Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry has decided to broadcast short films on Doordarshan about the Hindu religious Pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave much ahead of the yearly Yatra.
This according to sources is aimed at "encouraging more Yatris to Amarnath and aware them about the arduous trek to the shrine."
Sources said that the central as well as the state governments have decided to take this years' Amarnath Yatra "very seriously" and broadcasting of short films is a part of that.
"The government this year has taken its role of providing advocacy to the pilgrims much seriously," a SASB official has reportedly said.
The decision has come at a time when BJP is negotiating a "deal" with PDP to form a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir.
The number of Yatris has been an issue seriously raised by the environmentalists.
Many in the valley take the latest government decision as "publicity" to the Yatra albeit in the name of guiding pilgrims for the tough trek shrine.
Official sources said that TV channels in India will screen short films on "what it takes to go on an Amarnath Yatra".
The concerned Ministry has decided to show spot films describing the trek through the caves, the extreme climate conditions during the valley and the precautions pilgrims must take during the Journey.
Sources said that the process will start from next week, and the ministry is also in the process of asking private channels to run the films.
Amarnath Yatra 2015 is scheduled to commence in July however the registration process is going to start from March 1.
The Amarnath Yatra attracts over 3.5 lakh pilgrims every year.
